Senior Shine at CLC Meet

Seniors Sam Sunstrom and Matt Kruger had big days at the Central Lakes Conference meet in Fergus Falls on October 16.

Matt was presented with a special achievement award for participating all six years in the CLC and a link to the video should be uploaded to this blog in the near future.  Please come back to view it because it was really a special moment.  Our conference runners showed tremendous respect for Matt's achievement.  Just another reason why cross country and running in general is such a great sport!

Congratulations go out to Sam Sunstrom on her third place finish at the CLC meet with a time of 15:26 on a very difficult (hilly) course in 70+ degree weather.  She held off the hard charging Sam Hanson of Willmar and Mackenzie Dockendorf of Sartell to finish third.

Sam is our first CLC All-Conference runner since Kelsey Peterson and Mike McConnell did it in 2004!  Also, Sam is the highest placing female runner at the conference meet since Sauk Rapids joined the CLC in 2002!  (Gia Dickenson placed 4th in 2002)

Best of luck to all of our runners at the Section 8AA meet in Bemdiji on October 25th.

Pizza Party and Movie follows practice Tuesday Oct. 2

Just a reminder the team will be eating pizza and watching a movie about one of the most popular American runners (Steve Prefontaine) of all time on Tuesday, October 2 after practice.

The movie is called Without Limits (PG-13) and also profiles his coach Bill Bowerman who co-founded Nike, Inc.  Prefontaine is credited with some of the most famous running quotes of all time that include:

"To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift"

"A lot of people race to see who is the fastest. I race to see who has the most guts"

Pancake Breakfast: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

A huge "thank you" to all of the athletes, parents and families for hosting and participating in the Pancake Breakfast at Rollies on Sunday the 30th of September.  We had a terrific turnout of athletes and participation.

Because of your good work, we raised a nice chunk of money for the Cross Country program! The money is being used to pay for new running shorts for the team this year, coach busses to the conference and sectional meets, assistant coach salary, goodies for the athletes, etc.
