Home Meet Volunteers needed!

We are looking for adult volunteers to work at our meet on Thursday, September 5th.  Tim Wright can meet with the volunteers at 4:15 to go over the locations of where we need help.

We need two volunteers at the finish line and four volunteers to be scattered on the course.   We can switch the volunteers out so they can watch their runners participate in their respective races. 

The finish line volunteers will help make sure the runners go into the correct finishing chutes and stay in order of finish after they cross the finish line.  They will also help the runners after the finish with any needs they may have and of course, hydration.

The course volunteers will be placed in four locations to make sure the runners do not make a wrong turn on the course.

Please email Tim at: twright19@charter.net if you have interest in helping.  If we need six volunteers for each race, we will likely need at least 12 parents to volunteer to cover the six races.

Pot Luck Reminder!

Just a reminder that our team Pot Luck will follow the conclusion of our home meet on Thursday, September 5th.  We will be meeting in the commons area following the awards ceremony. 

Please remember the runners and their families are all invited to participate.  Just as previously planned, please bring one or two dishes to share with everyone.

Storm Cross Country Invitational Home Meet Information

The meet will be held on Thursday September 5, 2013.  The course is in Mayhew Creek Park which is adjacent to Sauk Rapids High School on the north side of the school.

Schedule:

4:30 7th and 8th Grade girls
4:50 7th and 8th Grade boys
5:10 JV Girls
5:35 JV Boys
6:00 Varsity Girls
6:20 Varsity Boys

Teams: Sauk Rapids-Rice, St. Cloud Apollo, St. Cloud Cathedral, St. Cloud Tech, St. Cloud Christian, Eden Valley-Watkins, Sartell (JV and Jr. High only).

Pancake Breakfast fund raiser tickets have been distributed

All of the runners that were at practice last Friday have received their tickets to sell for the Pancake Breakfast at Rollie's on Sunday September 29th.  If you have not received the tickets, please get them from Coach Zeilenga at the next practice.

Each of the runners were given 10 tickets and the expectations are to sell all 10 and not to return any of them.  As this is our primary fundraiser, it is very important to get all of the tickets sold.  If you can sell more than 10, please get more tickets from Coach Zeilenga.

Other than Burger Night at the VFW, this is the ONLY other fundraiser we have for the team.  The team has needs to fulfill (such as uniforms due to our growth from this year to last) and selling your tickets and volunteering to work the breakfast are very important to our program!

Parents, if you have a place to post a flyer of our event at your place of employment, church, etc, please let us know and we can get a flyer to you right away to get the word out!

Apollo Meet Canceled - Pot Luck Date Moved

Unfortunately due to the unseasonably hot weather (heat index of 105) , the Apollo meet scheduled for Monday, August 26th has been canceled. 

Practice will be held at the high school 3:30-5:15 instead.

The pot luck will follow the home meet on Thursday September 5th inside the school.

Apollo Early Bird Invitational Meet Information - Monday August 26

Apollo Invitational will be held on Monday, August 26th at the VA Hospital located across the street from Apollo High School, 1000 44th Ave. No., St. Cloud.

Participating teams in 2013: Sartell-St. Stephen, Sauk Rapids-Rice, St. Cloud Tech, Coon Rapids, Elk River, Forest Lake, Hutchinson, St. Cloud Cathedral, Wayzata, Andover, St. Cloud Apollo.

A maximum of 7 runners will be allowed in the varsity race.  Junior High may consist of grades 7 –9.

Storm runners: There is no bus.  Please be at the meet by 3 pm. Thank you!
Parking is allowed in the Apollo North Lot and overflow lot across from Apollo.  You may use the restrooms at Apollo, Door 7.

Storm Pot Luck - Monday August 26th!

Our first meet is next Monday, August 26th.  We will be continuing our annual tradition of a post race pot luck at the Wrights following the meet!

Directions: From Benton Drive, you can take First Avenue North up the hill.  Right on 10th. Right on 2nd Avenue. Right on Frontier Court.  The second house on the right.  From Highway 15, you can turn at the stop lights at 18th Avenue Northwest (Holiday Gas Station). Make a right on 2nd Avenue North and follow to Frontier Court.

What to bring:  extra lawn chairs as we won’t have seating for everyone in our garage, drinks for you and your own family and one or two dishes to share.   A couple of years ago, we were heavy on desserts, so please, if you can, try not to bring too much of one thing.  

Please RSVP BY 3 PM ON FRIDAY AUGUST 23RD how many will be attending and what you will be bringing.  If I sense there is too much food of a certain area, I may send out another email or post another message on the blog.

Storm Uniform Information

Coach Zeilenga spoke with the athletes today about uniforms and here is the process for the 2013 season:

A hold of $60 must be placed on the uniforms this season to ensure the uniforms are returned at the end of the season. Your check will not be cashed but will be held until the uniform is returned at the end of the season.

Uniforms will be checked out on Thursday and Friday of this week.  Checks can be brought in before that however.  Please make the checks out to SRR Cross Country.

MSHSL Eligibility Form and Physical Forms

If you have not yet turned in your required forms, please do as soon as possible! The Minnesota State High School League Eligibility Form needs to be turned in along with the required physical approval from your doctor if you haven’t obtained a physical in the past THREE years.  

Please remember to pay the activity fee BEFORE the first meet at Apollo/VA on Monday, August 26th!

Fall Sports Meeting - Monday August 5

Sauk Rapids-Rice school district will be having their fall sports meeting at the high school on Monday, August 5 at 6:30 pm.    All of the parents and athletes will be meeting in the Performing Arts Center and then will be breaking out to other locations to discuss their specific sports.

You will be able to meet our coaching staff for this season and there will be a short agenda to go over some of the activities planned for this coming season.
