Storm CC Parent Meeting (optional) - Sunday March 8 - 7 pm

Just a brief reminder from my post after the year end pot luck and awards ceremony:

I offered to assist with the families of the runners who wish to make running “their sport” from a competitive standpoint next season.  If you and your runner want to head into fall practice next season ready to work hard and be competitive, please reply and let me know if you wish to participate.  I will be meeting with a group of parents/runners in the near future to discuss off season training plans, running camp potentials, local race opportunities, etc.   I sincerely hope we can get a core of competitive runners ready BEFORE the 2015 starts!

I will be meeting with the families at 7 pm on Sunday, March 8th.  If you and your runner have interest in making CC a competitive sport, please contact me via email (twright1@progressive.com) and I will provide you further information about the meeting location and agenda.   Thank you!

Former Storm CC star Sam Sunstrom SCSU Update

2013 Storm graduate Samantha Sunstrom competed in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track Championships this past weekend for St. Cloud State University.  Sam is in her Sophomore year at SCSU.

Sam ran a 18:20 in the 5000 meter race and a 10:30 in the 3000 meter race.  The outdoor season starts for SCSU in late March weather permitting.

Sam finished up her second season with the SCSU Cross Country team this past fall with a stellar finish.  Here is the story from the SCSU website:

St. Cloud State University sophomore Samantha Sunstrom (Sauk Rapids/Sauk Rapids-Rice H.S.) brought home All-Region honors from the 2014 NCAA Division II Central Region women's cross country championships on Saturday, Nov. 22 in Wayne, Neb.

Sunstrom earned All-Region honors on the strength of her 25th place finish at the regional race, which was held on the 6K course at the Wayne Country Club.  Sunstrom's time in the race was 22:38.38 in the field of 189 runners.  The top runner in the race was Samantha Rivard of Minnesota Duluth with a time of 21:05.73.

UMD also won the team titl with 40 points, while Augustana placed second with 59 points.   Sunstrom was the lone SCSU runner at the race, so the Huskies did not field a team score for this meet.  This race also marked the finish of the 2014 season for Sunstrom and the Huskies.

"She (Sunstrom) did a great job today," SCSU coach Eric Hanenberger said.  "Mentally and physically she competed great."

CC members on to State competition in other areas!

Congratulations to Colleen Schimnich and Nicki Bukowski as they and their management team took first place in the management competition at the ProStart Culinary State competition last month.  They have qualified
for the national Pro Start Invitational April 18-20 in Anaheim, California.

Congratulations as well to Jack Grabinski for finishing fourth in the 1 meter diving competition at Sectionals this past weekend.  He qualified for the state meet coming up March 5-7 at the U of M Aquatic Center.

Good luck to Colleen, Nicki and Jack!

Girls move to 5K distance in 2015

At the February 5, 2015 board meeting, the Minnesota High School League voted to approve the recommendation that the girls cross country race distance be lengthened to 5000 meters starting in the 2015 season.   Minnesota was one of the last six states nationwide to increase the length of the races.

The increase affects only the varsity and junior varsity races.  It will not affect the distances for the junior high events.
