Good Evening everyone.

Just a reminder about the post-race pot luck to be held in the High School Commons right after the conclusion of the awards ceremony.   Here are the food assignments for the pot luck:

Grades 6-8: fruits/veggies, side dish or dessert

In the past, we have been able to store our food in the Career Planning Center on the first floor.  We will be trying to secure that location again to keep the food.  If it changes, we will let you know!

Secondly, we still need a few more volunteers (4-6 more please!) to help us run the meet smoothly. ( Thanks to those of you already who have volunteered! )  If you can help, please email Coach Zeilenga or talk to her in person at an upcoming practice.   Volunteers: please meet with Tim Wright at 4 pm and he will have course maps handy and will show you where we  need to place parents so they can direct the runners in the right direction.   If you can’t make it until later, come flag Tim down on the course and he will assign a location to you for a later race.   As always, volunteers will not have to work the race their athlete will be participating in.

Home Meet Pot Luck Information and Volunteers Needed! - Thursday September 8th

One of the finest Storm Cross Country traditions continues this season on Thursday, September 8th after our home meet!  Our annual kickoff potluck takes place giving families and athletes a chance to mingle and get to know each other while sharing awesome dishes together.   The pot luck commences immediately following the award ceremony and will be held in the High School Commons.  Food will be held in a room to be determined as you arrive at the school for the meet.

Families should bring their own beverages and here are the food assignments:

Grades 6-8: fruits/veggies, side dish or dessert
Grade 9: desserts
Grade 10: side dishes
Grade 11 & 12: main dishes

Of course families are welcome to bring more than one dish if they desire!  The coaching staff will be supplying eating utensils, plates, napkins, etc.  The Storm cross country squad numbers around 50.

Secondly, we will need volunteers to assist at the home meet.  Many of you have volunteered in the past and we thank you and hope that you can help out again.  We need a minimum of 10-12 volunteers so families can switch off to watch their athletes participate in their individual races.  If you can help, please email Coach Zeilenga at Marie.Zeilenga@isd47.org or tell her in person at an upcoming practice!  Assignments will be given to the volunteers on the date of the race but most of the volunteers needed are just to stand on the course and make sure the runners go the right direction at the forks in the trails.  Easy peasy!

First time runners and parents:  Welcome!  There is a map attached to this email so you can get an idea of what the course looks like and where spectators can stand.   A lot of the courses zig zag or double loop so you will have several opportunities typically to see your runner, so don’t worry if you miss them once.  Odds are good you will see them a few more times.   Don’t be bashful, ask other parents who have been to the meets before where the course goes or where good spots are to view.   With that being said, the Apollo course is new this year, so we will all be in the same boat for the first meet.   However, other than the CLC Meet in Sartell, all of the courses we have run before.

Races are run one after another and are typically on schedule.  Athletes, please listen to your coaches and captains about what you need to do to get ready in warm ups and where you need to be as your race start approaches.   Middle school/junior high parents and athletes:  your distance will vary from meet to meet but will never exceed 3200 meters (2 miles).   Junior Varsity and Varsity athletes: your distance will always be 5000 meters (3.1 miles)
